Christ Is Not Optional

**You can listen to this post on my podcast here.

I was contemplating the perspective of the lost people of our world.

For many, to believe that the purpose of existence is to glorify God
is a foreign and even ridiculous concept.

Most have a perspective that following God is more like a hobby and
they see a relationship with Christ as optional.

What grieves me in my witness for Christ is how I can subconsciously believe this lie.
I let my vision be clouded by society’s disinterest in God and get blinded by their confidence
and false belief that they don’t need God and can live without Him.

I lose the urgency of my spiritual vision, which is then followed by losing my boldness to speak truth.

But if I remember to see from God’s perspective that truly everyone has an eternal destination,
then I will be strengthened in my effort to be a witness.

If in the forefront of my mind I remain fully persuaded that after death every person
will either live in heaven or hell and if I remember that all were created for God’s purpose,
then my boldness will increase and I will be more aware of the urgency to witness to bring souls to Christ.

Oh, that God would give us His vision!  That we would see souls the way He does!
That He would anoint our eyes with eyesalve that we may see and be zealous to carry out His work!

I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou
mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed,
and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear;
and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten:
be zealous therefore, and repent.
Revelation 3:18-19

But Christian,
are WE living like Christ is optional?

Are we content with salvation and pursue nothing more?

Do we selectively choose when we will invite Christ’s input?

Do we use our faith only when it serves us or is convenient?

Do we use scripture as wise poetry rather than soul-piercing Truth?

Do we make decisions that cause us to forfeit church?

Are we leaving a legacy of worldy, temporary hope or are we pointing those
we will leave behind to the Eternal hope, a true legacy that continues
beyond our death?

Christian, have we accepted the gift of eternal life, but live each day without a
thought of our Savior?

Do we greet Him when we wake?

Do we ask His wisdom in our decisions?

Do we surrender our day to Him, or do we keep living it for our own pleasure?

Yes, this world acts as if Christ is optional.
They don’t comprehend the penalty their sin carries.
They live blissfully ignorant of the consequence.

We must not be confused by their confidence.
They must choose Christ to be forgiven.
Christ is not optional.

But Christian, Christ is not optional in our lives either.
A life has consequences when it neglects God’s principals and fellowship.

A Christian loses so much by not pursuing Christ beyond salvation.
Untold blessings are forfeited by living a redeemed life without
a relationship with the Redeemer.

Lost or the saved we all need His constant presence, fellowship, direction, grace and involvement.

Tis’ a true and sobering truth that the lost and the saved should not deceive themselves.
What we reap, we sow.  God is not mocked.

To the lost, forfeiting Christ has eternal consequence.

To the saved, forfeiting Christ leads to emptiness, lost blessings,
and to meeting God as a stranger when He finally brings them home
with no fruit to bear, just stubble as their works lose all value as it passes through the fire.

For the lost or the saved, Christ is not optional.

Let all the earth fear the Lord:
let all the inhabitants of the world
stand in awe of him.
Psalm 33:8

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life:
and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life;
but the wrath of God abideth on him.
John 3:36

If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss:
but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
I Corinthians 3:15
